Sparkle “E” is on the scene…. of the Rose 🌹 Bowl Parade, 2020‼️

Highlights from the Rose 🌹 Bowl Parade… in Pasadena,

California… January 1, 2020

Details on the History of the Rose 🌹 Parade… after photos!

In the late 1800’s…
Pasadena’s distinguished Valley Hunt Club… decided to develop a special event… to promote the city’s charm and beautiful weather…
The abundance of fresh flowers, even in the midst of winter, prompted the club to add another showcase for Pasadena’s charm: a parade before competitive games like chariot races, jousting, foot races, polo and tug-of-war.

Those participating in these events would decorate their carriages with hundreds of flowers.

In 1895, the Tournament of Roses Association was formed to take charge of the festival, which had grown too large for the Valley Hunt Club to handle.

The Tournament of Roses has come a long way since its early days. The Rose Parade’s elaborate floats now feature high-tech computerized animation and natural materials from around the world.

Although a few floats are still built exclusively by volunteers from their sponsoring communities, most are built by professional float building companies and take nearly a year to construct. The year-long effort pays off on New Year’s morning, when millions of viewers around the world enjoy the Rose Parade.

More than 80,000 hours of combined manpower is supplied by 935 volunteer members of the Tournament of Roses Association.

Each volunteer is assigned to one of 31 committees, with responsibilities ranging from selecting parade participants to directing visitors on New Year’s Day, to serving food to band members at the end of the parade route, to giving presentations about the Tournament to community groups.

Nicknamed “White Suiters” because of the distinctive white uniform every volunteer wears, these community-spirited men and women give up their evenings, weekends and holidays to ensure the success of the Parade and Game. A small full-time staff provides support and continuity to the volunteer organization.

The Tournament of Roses has since become America’s New Year Celebration…

It comes just before one of the most popular college football events: The Rose Bowl…

Wisconsin and Oregon Fans were all over Los Angeles… In addition to parade participants… from all over the world!

Make your plans to be there next year! Bleacher seats with the best views are available at:

Sparkle “E” is on the scene… for the historic premiere of “HARRIET.”

This film 🎞 is AMAZING ‼️

When I attended the premiere at the Orpheum… all I could think was this is an epic occasion.

First of all the theater was packed.  You could clearly see that people were anxious to see this production. It’s crucial history, A real life account of a true hero!

During the screening… the audience gasped, sighed, moaned… as the saga unfolded. The crowd also cheered, and broke out into applause SEVERAL times‼️

Why??? Because the woman playing #harriettubman is right on point..

Cynthia Erivo breathed life into a mighty woman we only know by photographs. Most of us have read about her story in books… but to see the details on the big screen… and feel every emotion and triumph is something that must be experienced for yourself.

Below 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽 is costume worn by Cynthia Erivo in “Harriet”

The #drama #suspense, gasps #sighsofrelief & bursts of #applause from the #audience during the entire film was something else!

Following the screening … @cynthiaerivo Sang theme song from #harriettubmanmovie LIVE after #premiere. She was a rich and soulful voice. She brought the house down! Hey, I can even imagine this Song receiving an Oscar nomination!!!

PLEASE support this #female team of #professionals …. taking the lead with this #project!🙌🏽

Here’s what you should know…

A young Harriett, in her early 20’s…traveled 100 miles, by herself, from Maryland to Philadelphia to escape slavery then made a number of trips back to plantations to free other slaves.

The film traces Tubman—the abolitionist and activist, who after escaping enslavement in 1849 was responsible for leading 70 other slaves to freedom.

As time marched on…

Harriet Tubman helped hundreds of other slaves escape. Leaders of the Underground Railroad supported Harriet with key connections to help her transition into a life of freedom, and offer support to those she liberated from plantations.

By the way, Harriet also served as a spy for the Union Army during the civil war, and lived to be more than 90 years old.

This woman, small in statue…was called “Minty.”  Short for her slave name of Araminta Ross.  She was later called “Moses” for her determination to lead those enslaved to the promise land!

Harriet was known to talk to God. She was frequently overcome with visions.. that were believed to predict the near future, or give her warnings about trouble coming..

These trances are historically accurate. (They were probably caused by an injury that occurred when a slave master, attempting to throw a metal weight at someone… fractured her skull… when she was 13 years old.

Cynthia Erivo gives an OSCAR worthy performance, while Director Kasi Lemmons,

(Eve’s BayouThe Caveman’s Valentine, Talk to MeBlack Nativity),

skillfully guides this historic masterpiece…

with careful thought

and purpose.

The screenplay is co-written by Lemons and Gregory Allen Howard.

The world will see “Harriet” clearly… as a SUPER HERO !!!!

Hopefully, one who will soon be featured on a US $20.00 bill.

You’ll agree that Erivo as Tubman is indeed…a phenomenal woman!

She stars in this soul stirring film..with Leslie Odom Jr., Joe Alwyn, Janelle Monáe, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Jennifer Nettles, Clarke Peters, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Henry Hunter Hall,

Zakary MoMoh, Mitchell Hong, Deborah Ayorinde,

Omar Dorsey,

Kudos to ALL the cast & crew!

@JanelleMonae @nessabcalloway @CynthiaEriVo #filmdirector @kasi_lemmons #Producer @DebraMChase @nessabcalloway #ShineOn!

How about several Oscar nods for this great teamwork!!!

Sparkle ✨E✨ on the scene… exploring the history… & mystery of 🚢 Queen Mary

I’ve always been fascinated by this ship…and then I learned the back story.

First… let’s find out about the legendary member of the royal family the ship honors..

Here’s everything you need to know about the REAL QUEEN MARY:

Mary of Teck was Queen consort of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions and Empress consort of India as the wife of King George V.

Although technically a princess of Teck, in the Kingdom of Württemberg, she was born and raised in the United Kingdom. Her children included
George Vl, —> (the current Queen Elizabeth’s Father), Mary, Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood, Edward VIII, Prince Henry, Prince Henry, Prince George and Prince John

The Queen Mary Ship has such a rich history! I had the privilege of spending a few nights onboard.
I discovered this portrait of the real Queen Mary… and several other historic photos and artifacts.

My! How impressive the Ocean Liner looks docked in Long Beach, California.

A couple of times a day… the ship 🚢 sounds it’s mighty horn…
With a lot of the original elements of the ship still in place… and other preserved items… All around you…
You can just close your eyes… and imagine how things used to be… nostalgic music playing throughout the ship.. sets the tone.
On May 27, 1936, the Queen Mary departed from Southampton, England on her maiden voyage.

The Queen Mary… was built decades after the Titanic.
It -almost- doubles the Titanic in weight… and was a faster, more powerful ship. It also had the most advanced technologies and ideas.

The Queen Mary also happens to be about 140 feet longer than theTitanic.

The Ship had five dining areas and lounges, two cocktail bars and swimming pools, a grand ballroom, a music rehearsal room, a writing room, gym, nursery, fine stores, a squash court and even a small hospital.
The Queen Mary had set a new benchmark in transatlantic travel,

Oh, and one more important detail: During it’s period of service… The Queen Mary had 1,001 trans-Atlantic crossings… The Titanic unfortunately.. had none.In case you’re wondering… the “Titanic” movie was not filmed on the Queen Mary… but tons of other productions have taken place on this ship including:Scenes from the original Sabrina (1954 – starring Bogart and Hepburn)The Poseidon Adventure (1972) movie with Frank Sinatra called “Assault On A Queen, The Godfather II, The Natural, and in the liner’s heyday, Fred Astaire cut a rug on the dance floor… An episode of TV series  X-Files, The Parent Trap (1998) Batman Forever (1995) The Aviator (2004) Pearl Harbor (2001) The Young and the Restless, episodes of Arrested Development, Party Down, Baywatch, The interiors (The 1st Class Dining Room and Observation Bar) appear in “The Aviator” (Warner Bros. 2004), “The Talented Mr. Ripley” (Paramount 1999) Exterior shots in “Pearl Harbor” ( 2001), Parts of the pilot episode of the Love Boat was also filmed on the Queen Mary. An episode of “Quantum Leap” Out to Sea” with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, There’s even a Queen Mary reference in The Shawshank Redemption. At the end of the movie when Red goes and digs up the box that Andy left for him, the money is in a Queen Mary candy tin.The boat also had LOTS of famous passengers…Hollywood ⭐️ celebrities like Bob Hope and Clark Gable, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Greta Garbo, Lynne Redgrave, Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly,  royalty like the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and dignitaries like Winston Churchill. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Edward VII and Wallis Simpson, President Robert Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy

Lou Costello
Mae West
Elizabeth Taylor

Alfred Hitchcock & Wife

Cary Grant

As World War II started, the Queen Mary’s transformation into a troopship had begun. She was painted a camouflaged grey color and stripped of her luxurious amenities. Dubbed the “Grey Ghost” because of her stealth and stark color, the Queen Mary was the largest and fastest troopship to sail, capable of transporting as many as 16,000 troops

Since her retirement from the sea as an active liner in 1967, the Queen Mary has never been more popular as an iconic Southern California attraction, hotel, and venue for special events.
The ship carried some 2.2 million passengers in peacetime and 810,000 military personnel in the Second World War, but here in Long Beach, an estimated 50 million people have visited.
The Queen Mary left South Hampton for the last time on October 31, 1967 and sailed to the port  of Long Beach, California…where she is permanently moored.
Much of the machinery, including one of the two engine rooms, three of the four propellers, and all of the boilers, were removed.

The ship now serves as a tourist attraction featuring restaurants, a museum and a hotel.
The Queen Mary is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a popular place for weddings, luncheons, banquets, conventions, business meetings, parties, and many other social events.

Around Halloween 🎃 time…one of the scariest adventures takes place at the Queen Mary.

Monsters and Mazes draw thrill seekers from all across the globe.

The Queen Mary also has a reputation of being haunted…you know…

Ghost hunters, and mediums have plenty of stories… and close encounters to share…

Historic tours, and Haunted tours take place on the ship all year long..

The popular Halloween attraction is called:

“Dark Harbor”

Get more info about this event, concerts, ship 🚢 tours, and other special events at
In the NEW Downton Abbey Movie… (released on September 20, 2019), the plot centers around the Crawley family getting a visit from King George V and Queen Mary.
Yes! “The” Queen who has this fine ocean liner… named in her honor!
Geraldine James… playing the role of Queen Mary… wears the Vladimir Tiara, one of the current 93-year-old monarch’s favorite sparkling head-toppers.
This is an exquisite piece she inherited from her grandmother…
“Queen 👑 Mary”

While the tiara in the film isn’t the real deal…costume designer Anna Robbins has gone on record saying model maker Martin Adams… went all out to make sure movie goers couldn’t tell the difference. Ooh-la-laaa!!!!

If you
haven’t had an opportunity to tour the Queen Mary.. be sure to add it to your to do list. It’s quite an adventure going around the ship.
wonderful history, great restauraants, shops, awesome views of the city of Long Beach.. and lots of entertainment options onboard..
I enjoyed the 3-D movies, and checking out all the museums and displays.
This is an ideal place to take visiting guests for sightseeing!
There’s also a shuttle just outside the ship called the compass 🧭
It takes you to other places of interest.. around the belt line village, and tourist attractions including the lighthouse, the aquarium of the pacific, the convention center, shops, outlets, chartered boat tours, bars, clubs, and additional restaurants.
Plan a full day of exploration on the Queen Mary… get a room onboard,
and sail smoothly through your schedule into a peaceful night. The moon and stars look beautiful from the upper deck.
